I just got home from a monthly Capoeira Angola Roda we have here in L.A., ad was surfing the web when I saw this You Tube video called CAPOEIRA ANGOLA: RELÍQUIAS DA VELHA BAHIA (CAPOEIRA ANGOLA: RELICS OF OLD BAHIA).
I’m not sure when this video was taken, but it shows a small window in time, a time in Bahia Brazil when the revered Mestres of the “Velha Guarda” (Old Guard) of Capoeira Angola were young, and a glimpse of how Capoeira was played in those days.

Well actually, ALL my posts are about capoeira, even though it may not look like it at first glance.
However, this video has actual capoeira drills in it. Here, we see Da’Mon Stith of Austin Warrior arts doing some drills with the ginga in a Sport setting.
ow i case you don’t know, the Ginga is the Alpha and Omega of Capoeira technique. In Capoeira, ALL movements all techniques come from the Ginga. It’s the 1st thing a Capoeira student learns; If you don’t know how to ginga, you can never be a capoeirista.
Anyway, I added the video along with the description below. I appreciate the fact that warriors like Da’Mon Stith is willing to think outside the box, and experiment with real world application.
Hopefully, someone can watch this video, learn from it, and use it as inspiration to be the best capoeirista or Martial artist that he or she can be.
Nov 10, 2023 In this video we are demonstrating an asymmetrical drill of attack and defense where one attacks using only conventional boxing style punches trying to hit/touch his partner who can only use the ginga, esquivas and boxing style evasions. In the second round I am using straight kicks like the bencao, pontiera, and chapa in order to intercept and disrupt my partner’s forward advance. Very quick post ere. Today is Veteran’s Day in my country, the U.S.A. And although I admit I’m not very patriotic, I always do something o honor those warriors who risked, and even sacrificed their lives for all of us.

Now I can say that bringing ALL the hostages home SAFE AND SOUND, is something that I wholeheartedly support 100%.

Now having said that, I’ll also tell you that though I’m in total support of releasing those hostages, I CANNOT and WILL NOT support or stand by the current Israeli government, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.
As a great-grandson of SLAVES, and a man whose parents grew up in the United States during the JIM CROW ERA, I can’t support a govt which willingly does this to part of it’s population.
And as a Capoeirista who truly loves this art form, I DO NOT appreciate anyone using Capoeira to support the current Israeli government.
CAPOEIRA IS THE ART OF THE OPPRESSED, NOT THE OPPRESSORS!!!

Well, Yesterday marked my 10 anniversary in this game and way of life named Capoeira Angola!
Wow, certainly this journey has had its ups and downs… from the first time I started this journey with my teacher…
To the journey of learning the ins and outs of playing the berimbau…
The endless classes…
To all the amazing people I met along the way.
Throughout my journey in Capoeira Angola so far, I’ve undergone a fundamental change in my appearance, what I eat, how I exercise, how I move, while learning a whole new way of looking at this world we live in.
And learning about a different culture as well.
Now this is just a small milestone; my journey in Capoeira Angola is FAR from over. I’ve barely even scratched the surface of what this wonderful artform has to offer.
However, whatever else I do with my life, I will continue learning Capoeira Angola, even after I die.
And now, I would like to take a moment to honor and remember those who sacrificed so much to pass this art to the present…
