An “externality” is an effect of an industry whose costs are born by society, rather than by the company. Cancer is an externality of the tobacco industry. Climate change is an externality of the fossil fuel and animal agriculture industries. Water pollution is an externality of the fashion and agricultural industries. The corporations that make the most in profit usually have the greatest externalities.

Sustainable Human is a 501c3 non-profit started by a husband and wife team (Chris and Dawn Agnos) whose mission is to examine the underlying stories that give rise to the environmental, social, and economic crises of our time and offer new stories that help humanity to live in harmony with each other and the biosphere.
