HAPPY KWANZAA! Day 7

Kwanzaa is a seven-day celebration observed from December 26 to January 1, promoting Pan-African culture and community. It can serve as an alternative or an addition to other winter holidays, focusing on seven key principles applicable throughout the year.

Today’s Kwanzaa principle, Imani (Faith), emphasizes the significance of family and community traditions as a spiritual center, fostering belief in community leaders, elders, and loved ones, both past and present. This principle encourages individuals to cultivate a deep-seated trust and confidence in one another, reinforcing the bonds that unite families and communities. By honoring the lessons and experiences passed down through generations, Imani nourishes a collective identity that celebrates shared heritage and values.

It inspires people to actively participate in the growth and development of their communities, reinforcing the idea that faith in one another is essential for resilience and harmony. This collective engagement not only fosters a sense of belonging but also cultivates a dynamic environment where innovative ideas can flourish, allowing individuals to harness their unique strengths for the greater good. In acknowledging the sacrifices and triumphs of those who came before us, we not only pay tribute to their legacy but also empower ourselves to envision a brighter future for the generations yet to come, embracing a commitment to uplift and support each other through life’s challenges.

By remembering our shared history, we are reminded of the power of unity, instilling a deeper sense of responsibility to carry forward the lessons learned and to strive for a more inclusive and compassionate world. It is through these shared experiences and the bonds we create that we can build a foundation of hope, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued in our collective pursuit of growth.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Merry Christmas everybody!!!

I know I don’t have to define Christmas, but in case anybody doesn’t know, Check this out.

And, here’s anice, “super woke” video about this holiday, courtesy of Charity Croft..

Okay, now that we got that out of the way…

For me, Christmas, indeed the whole Holiday season, has always been the time of year that everything around e is a bit… better. People seem to be a little nicer, he weather, though cold here in the U.S.A., seems to be a bit nicer, and everything, people, animals, plants, EVERYTHING is just… better.

Now, I know that MY experience is not the same as other people’s experience. For some of you out there, this holiday may be a hurtful, or even a traumatic experience. the holidays can also be a difficult time for many. It can bring up triggers from your past, or you may be struggling with their feelings of belonging.

I wish I can do something to take the hurt away, but all I can offer is this.

My dear friends at KIN UNIFIED HEALING have created a small five minute sound meditation that you can listen to, for any of you out there that may need it. I hope this helps.

Click HERE to check it out.

As I type these words, there’s a brutal war and genocide happening in Palestine, specifically the Gaza Strip.

I would like those who are reading this post to send a prayer for the Palestinian people, and for this senseless war to end.

I’m gonna ed this post with this playlist of Christmas songs by Pentatonix.

HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!!

Well, BELATED winter solstice, anyway.

In case you don’t know what the winter solstice is, here’s a little definition FROM WIKIPEDIA:

The winter solstice, also called the hibernal solstice, occurs when either of Earth‘s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice yearly, once in each hemisphere (Northern and Southern). For that hemisphere, the winter solstice is the day with the shortest period of daylight and longest night of the year, and when the Sun is at its lowest daily maximum elevation in the sky.[7] Each polar region experiences continuous darkness or twilight around its winter solstice.

The winter solstice occurs during the hemisphere’s winter. In the Northern Hemisphere, this is the December solstice (usually 21 or 22 December) and in the Southern Hemisphere, this is the June solstice (usually 20 or 21 of June). Although the winter solstice itself lasts only a moment, the term also refers to the day on which it occurs. The term midwinter is also used synonymously with the winter solstice, although it carries other meanings as well. Traditionally, in many temperate regions, the winter solstice is seen as the middle of winter; although today in some countries and calendars it is seen as the beginning of winter. Other names are the “extreme of winter” (Dongzhi), or the “shortest day”.

Since prehistory, the winter solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures and has been marked by festivals and rituals.[8] It marked the symbolic death and rebirth of the Sun; the gradual waning of daylight hours is reversed and begins to grow again. Some ancient monuments such as Newgrange, Stonehenge, and Cahokia Woodhenge are aligned with the sunrise or sunset on the winter solstice.

Let’s take a trip back in time.

Hi Everybody,

I just got home from a monthly Capoeira Angola Roda we have here in L.A., ad was surfing the web when I saw this You Tube video called CAPOEIRA ANGOLA: RELÍQUIAS DA VELHA BAHIA (CAPOEIRA ANGOLA: RELICS OF OLD BAHIA).

I’m not sure when this video was taken, but it shows a small window in time, a time in Bahia Brazil when the revered Mestres of the “Velha Guarda” (Old Guard) of Capoeira Angola were young, and a glimpse of how Capoeira was played in those days.

I hope you enjoy the video, and I will be posting up more videos like these in the future.

FINALLY, A NEW POST ABOUT CAPOEIRA! WELL…

Hi Everyone,

Well actually, ALL my posts are about capoeira, even though it may not look like it at first glance.

However, this video has actual capoeira drills in it. Here, we see Da’Mon Stith of Austin Warrior arts doing some drills with the ginga in a Sport setting.

ow i case you don’t know, the Ginga is the Alpha and Omega of Capoeira technique. In Capoeira, ALL movements all techniques come from the Ginga. It’s the 1st thing a Capoeira student learns; If you don’t know how to ginga, you can never be a capoeirista.

Anyway, I added the video along with the description below. I appreciate the fact that warriors like Da’Mon Stith is willing to think outside the box, and experiment with real world application.

Hopefully, someone can watch this video, learn from it, and use it as inspiration to be the best capoeirista or Martial artist that he or she can be.

Nov 10, 2023 In this video we are demonstrating an asymmetrical drill of attack and defense where one attacks using only conventional boxing style punches trying to hit/touch his partner who can only use the ginga, esquivas and boxing style evasions. In the second round I am using straight kicks like the bencao, pontiera, and chapa in order to intercept and disrupt my partner’s forward advance. OK, let’s talk about Israel for a second.

Greetings.

This morning, a friend of mine posted a Instagram link to a, interesting reel. I urge you to click HERE and watch it before reading any further.

Since then, I found a YouTube video Today (5/24/24) with the same video, so I posted it here.

Now, in case you didn’t click over to Instagram and watch that reel, here’s what is posted with that reel:

On the morning of October 7th , Israel and the world were shocked by an inhuman terror act of massacre and mass kidnapping of children , elders men and women, performed by Hamas and other terror organization from Gaza.

In response Israel & the IDF went on a mission of bringing all 240 civilians held in Gaza home safe.

The Israeli Capoeira community stands together in a call to #bringthemhomenow

#academiadomestreedan #bringthemhome #capoeira #israel #freepalestine from Hamas #hamasisisis

Now I can say that bringing ALL the hostages home SAFE AND SOUND, is something that I wholeheartedly support 100%.

And I also CONDEMN those terrorist scum who turned a concert into a massacre a month ago (As of this writing): Click HERE to see what I just typed about.

FUCK HAMAS.

Now having said that, I’ll also tell you that though I’m in total support of releasing those hostages, I CANNOT and WILL NOT support or stand by the current Israeli government, IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM.

As a great-grandson of SLAVES, and a man whose parents grew up in the United States during the JIM CROW ERA, I can’t support a govt which willingly does this to part of it’s population.

And as a Capoeirista who truly loves this art form, I DO NOT appreciate anyone using Capoeira to support the current Israeli government.

CAPOEIRA IS THE ART OF THE OPPRESSED, NOT THE OPPRESSORS!!!

Well, that’s all I have to say about this subject for now.

Not exactly. I have one more thing to say.

FREE PALESTINE!!!!
