In Today’s installment…

In Seattle a white man took a handgun and shot a black vet in a wheelchair, claiming it was self-defense. Prosecutors are treating it as “assault,” and not attempted murder. And this white man has tried to kill people before! In a disturbing incident that has ignited a debate about justice and racial bias, a white man in Seattle shot a Black veteran, who was confined to a wheelchair, with a handgun. The assailant has claimed self-defense, a claim that is currently being scrutinized by legal authorities. However, prosecutors have chosen to pursue charges of “assault” rather than attempted murder, a decision that has drawn criticism and raised questions about the appropriate severity of the charges given the circumstances.

Adding another layer of concern to this already contentious case, it has come to light that the accused has a history of attempting to harm individuals in the past. This prior record raises serious questions about the individual’s propensity for violence and whether sufficient measures were taken to prevent such an incident from occurring again. The community is now grappling with the implications of this event, as it highlights broader issues of gun violence, the treatment of veterans, racial prejudice, and the effectiveness of the legal system in addressing repeated violent behavior.

O VÍDEO DO DIA DA CAPOEIRA ANGOLA (9/17/25)

GREETINGS!!!

Capoeira Angola videos online showcase its vibrant culture through music and movement, highlighting its evolution as a form of self-defense and expression. They demonstrate intricate techniques while exploring the rich history, emphasizing community connections and the art’s ability to unite diverse individuals. These videos educate viewers about Capoeira as a living tradition that inspires future generations, illustrating its values of resilience, creativity, and cultural pride, while inviting participation in this unique blend of dance and martial arts, ultimately appreciating this dynamic art form.

Today, we have this amazing “Classic” game with Joao Grande, and Mestre Cobra Mansa.

This game, from the 1986 capoeira Angola event in Bahia organized by GCAP, showcases Joao Grande’s remarkable mastery, characterized by the profound idea that true mastery is found in “only Movement.” This philosophy emphasizes fluidity and grace over brute force, as Joao Grande exemplifies in his every action. Unlike Mestre Cobra Mansa, who dominates with unpredictable and explosive movements that catch opponents off guard, Joao Grande skillfully uses his body to thwart Cobra Mansa’s dynamic style, employing strategic and calculated maneuvers that reflect his deep understanding of capoeira.

This competition is reminiscent of the age-old rivalry between an Old Lion and a Young Lion—where experience meets youthful exuberance in a dance of skill and artistry. As both practitioners engage in this intense exchange, the energy of the crowd swells, heightening the stakes and amplifying the spectacle, thus creating a breathtaking display that transcends mere physical combat and becomes a celebration of culture, tradition, and personal expression within the vibrant world of capoeira.

FAFO!!!

I posted this story before, but this video was created and posted by someone from a different perspective, so I’m posting it today.

TikTok star Tamo turned a livestream interruption by a racist troll into a powerful lesson on accountability, which ultimately ended the man’s Navy career. During his engaging gaming stream, Tamo was targeted by a heckler who repeatedly shouted racial slurs, attempting to disrupt his session and provoke a reaction. Rather than overlook the incident and let it slide, Tamo chose to confront the issue head-on, addressing it publicly in a manner that resonated with his audience. He created a viral video that not only exposed the troll’s life to millions but also sparked important conversations around racism and accountability in the digital age.

Tamo’s fearless response was accentuated by the powerful background music of Kendrick Lamar’s “Meet the Grahams,” which further emphasized the seriousness of the situation. This incident not only amplified Tamo’s message of resilience against hate but also served as a wake-up call to other content creators about the importance of standing up against online harassment.

I think I will create a new series called “RACIST OF THE WEEK”, where we will showcase these people and delve into the reasons behind their harmful beliefs and actions. Each week (maybe), we will highlight a different individual who has made headlines for their racist comments or actions, providing context and commentary to help our audience understand the impact of these behaviors. This series will not only expose the individuals but also spark important conversations about systemic racism and the ways in which society can combat such attitudes. It is crucial that we address these issues head-on and encourage our community to engage in meaningful dialogue.

I’d call this one example of “I don’t encourage it, but I don’t disapprove it either”

Well apparently, there’s a group out there called Dads Against Predators (D.A.P.), an American vigilante group that works to identify and expose individuals who prey on minors online. The organization was founded in Ohio in 2020 by Joshua Mundy and Jay Carnicom, who felt a strong responsibility to protect children in an increasingly dangerous digital landscape. They primarily operate by posing as minors in online chats to lure suspected predators into real-life, filmed confrontations, which are then shared widely on social media platforms.

This controversial approach raises significant questions about legality and ethics, as it bypasses official law enforcement methods and could potentially jeopardize ongoing investigations that rely on strict protocols and adherence to the law. Moreover, while many support their mission to keep children safe—an undoubtedly noble cause—it is essential to consider the broader implications of such vigilantism. I find myself with mixed feelings about this practice, as it can blur the lines between justice and personal vendettas, leading to actions driven more by emotion than by a measured approach to justice. This ambiguity leaves one to wonder if the ends truly justify the means, especially when the consequences of taking the law into one’s own hands can be deeply unpredictable and far-reaching.

Not to mention the fact that engaging in such pursuits can get very dangerous, not only for those involved but also for innocent bystanders, potentially escalating situations in ways that law enforcement personnel are trained to handle responsibly.

And also, what if they target the wrong person? This situation raises significant concerns, not only for the individual mistakenly identified but also for the broader implications it may have on trust and safety within the community.

The repercussions of misidentification can lead to serious emotional distress, reputational damage, and even legal consequences for the innocent party involved. In addition, it may foster an environment of fear and paranoia, where individuals are wary of being scrutinized or unfairly judged. This highlights the importance of careful and accurate assessment in any targeting process, as the consequences of error could far outweigh any intended benefits.

Anyway, if you want to catch predators, or support such actions, do you. However, be aware of the pitfalls and potential dangers of doing so. Engaging in these activities can lead to unforeseen consequences, not only putting yourself at risk but also affecting the lives of others involved. It’s essential to educate yourself on the legal implications and ethical considerations before taking any action. Additionally, establishing a support network with like-minded individuals can provide you with necessary resources and guidance. Always prioritize safety and seek professional advice when needed, as navigating these complex situations requires careful thought and responsibility.

How to Navigate the 34th Law of Power with an Ethical Compass

The 34th Law of Power, often summarized as “Be Royal in Your Own Fashion: Act Like a King to Be Treated Like One,” is a principle rooted in presenting an image of self-assurance, confidence, and inherent value. This law suggests that by embodying the outward characteristics of royalty—dignity, generosity, and an unshakeable belief in one’s own worth—others will naturally respond by granting you respect, deference, and the resources associated with high status. It is a psychological tool for influencing perception and, consequently, reality.

However, the pursuit of power and influence must be tempered by a strong ethical framework. Applying the 34th Law ethically means leveraging its psychological mechanisms without resorting to deceit, exploitation, or arrogance. It transforms the law from a tool of manipulation into a principle of genuine, value-driven leadership.Ethical Pillars for Implementing the 34th Law

To ensure an ethical application, one must focus on the substance behind the royal facade:

1. Authentic Self-Possession, Not Arrogance:

  • The Ethical Approach: The “royal” demeanor should stem from deep, authentic self-respect and competence, not from a manufactured superiority complex. Ethically, this means putting in the work to earn the confidence you project. True self-possession is quiet, grounded, and secure, recognizing the value in oneself while respecting the value in others.
  • The Unethical Pitfall: Using a show of arrogance, entitlement, or contempt for others to mask insecurity or a lack of substance. This damages relationships and is ultimately unsustainable.

2. Generosity and Reciprocity (The Royal Patron):

  • The Ethical Approach: Historical royalty often maintained their status through calculated acts of generosity—patronage, providing protection, and bestowing honors. Ethically, this translates to being a leader who genuinely supports their team, shares credit, mentors subordinates, and contributes value far beyond what is strictly required. The power you accrue is used to lift others up.
  • The Unethical Pitfall: Being a “tyrant” who hoards resources, demands service without offering commensurate value, or acts purely out of self-interest. This may grant short-term obedience but breeds resentment and instability.

3. Maintaining Dignity Through Integrity:

  • The Ethical Approach: The royal image is preserved through consistency, transparency (where appropriate), and a commitment to one’s stated values. Ethical application of the 34th Law means avoiding petty disputes, refraining from gossip, and always honoring one’s word. A king’s word is his bond; an ethical leader’s word is their reputation.
  • The Unethical Pitfall: Engaging in duplicitous behavior, making false promises, or allowing your actions to be inconsistent with your projected image. This quickly erodes trust, and without trust, the projected image of “royalty” collapses into farce.

4. Focusing on Service and Purpose:

  • The Ethical Approach: The most ethical expression of the 34th Law is when the projected image of competence and authority serves a higher, positive purpose—leading a successful initiative, advocating for a just cause, or creating genuine value for a community or organization. The power is not an end in itself but a means to achieve constructive goals.
  • The Unethical Pitfall: Adopting the “royal” persona solely for personal gain, luxury, or to dominate others, leading to a focus on superficial status rather than meaningful contribution.

Practical Ethical Application Steps

  1. Define Your True Value: Identify the unique skills, expertise, and positive influence you bring to a situation. This is the foundation of your legitimate claim to a “royal” status.
  2. Project Confidence, Not Conceit: Use body language, clear communication, and decisive action to project competence. Ensure your confidence is always paired with humility—a willingness to listen, learn, and admit mistakes.
  3. Invest in Your Appearance and Environment: Presenting a professional, thoughtful image is an ethical signal that you respect your role, your time, and the people you are engaging with. This is not about extravagance but about care and quality.
  4. Practice Strategic Generosity: Be liberal with praise, mentorship, and opportunities for others. Make deposits into your relational capital by being a reliable source of support and fair treatment.

By focusing on these ethical underpinnings, the 34th Law of Power becomes a framework for powerful, yet principled, leadership, ensuring that the influence you gain is both lasting and morally sound.

The 34th law of power, through the eyes of an Angoleiro:

For those who walk the path of Capoeira Angola, the 34th Law of Power—Be Royal in Your Own Fashion: Act Like a King to Be Treated Like One—takes on a profound, almost spiritual significance. It is not about ostentatious wealth or inherited titles, but about the postura (posture), the inherent dignity, and the self-respect that define a true master, or Mestre.

In the roda (the circle where Capoeira is played), the Angoleiro learns to carry themselves with an internal regality, a quiet confidence that commands respect without demanding it. This “royalty” is earned through:

  1. Mastery of the Jogo (Game): A Mestre’s authority is rooted in their deep, fluid knowledge of the movements, the songs (quadras and corridos), the rhythms of the berimbau, and the history of the art. Their every move—slow, deliberate, and efficient—is the expression of a cultivated mind and body. They don’t have to boast; their jogo speaks for them.
  2. The Axé (Life Force/Energy): Royalty in Angola is synonymous with a strong axé. It’s the powerful, positive energy and presence they bring into the roda. When they enter, the energy shifts. They are the anchor, the one who sustains the fire and depth of the game. They hold the wisdom and the spirit of the lineage.
  3. Self-Control and Patience: Acting like a king means never showing desperation, fear, or petty anger. A true Angoleiro maintains a calm, almost impenetrable demeanor. They are deliberate, observing the flow, waiting for the perfect moment to execute a dangerous rasteira (takedown) or a clever malandragem (trickery). Their patience is their power; they rule the space by not rushing the interaction.
  4. Humildade (Humility) as a Crown: Paradoxically, the highest form of Capoeira “royalty” is not arrogance, but profound humility. A Mestre understands that the art is bigger than any single person. They serve the roda and the tradition. This genuine humility—the willingness to always be a student—is what makes their authority magnetic and legitimate, rather than tyrannical.

To be “royal in your own fashion” as an Angoleiro is to embody the legacy of the enslaved Africans who created this art as a form of cultural and physical resistance. It means carrying the weight of that history with dignity, showing that even without physical chains, one possesses an unbreakable spirit—the spirit of a sovereign within their own skin. Their postura is a statement: “I am worthy of respect because I respect the art, my ancestors, and myself.” They are treated like a king because they act like the living embodiment of the Rei da Capoeira (King of Capoeira).

LAW 33 DISCOVER EACH MANS THUMBSCREW

Discover each man’s thumbscrew, which emphasizes the importance of understanding what drives and motivates individuals, highlights the necessity of recognizing the unique pressures and vulnerabilities that each person holds. By engaging deeply with others, we unveil their personal strengths and weaknesses, allowing us to navigate our interactions more effectively.

This principle suggests that by identifying the metaphorical “thumbscrew” of a person—be it their desires, fears, or insecurities—we can influence them in a manner that is beneficial for both parties. By gaining a deeper understanding of what motivates them, we create pathways for meaningful engagement, allowing us to tailor our interactions to resonate more profoundly. This nuanced approach not only enables us to respond better to their needs but also encourages open dialogues, where both sides can share their perspectives without fear of judgment. U

ltimately, this knowledge cultivates empathy and fosters stronger relationships, as we learn to align our approaches to accommodate their needs and aspirations. This, in turn, enhances collaboration and fosters trust, allowing for a communal environment where ideas can flourish and individuals feel valued, leading to a more cohesive and constructive relationship dynamic.

How to use The 33rd Law of Power in an ethical way: The Art of Strategic Discretion

The 33rd Law of Power, often interpreted as “Discover Each Man’s Thumbscrew,” speaks to the human tendency to focus on an individual’s specific weaknesses, insecurities, or desires—the leverage point that, when pressed, can be used to control or manipulate them. While this law, in its rawest form, is a tool for calculated influence and sometimes ruthless power, it is possible and necessary to reinterpret and apply its core principle—strategic understanding of human nature—in an ethical framework.

To utilize the essence of this law ethically, one must shift the focus from exploitation to empathy, effective communication, and collaboration.1. Shift the Focus: From “Thumbscrew” to “Motivator”

Instead of seeking a “weakness” to exploit, an ethical application involves identifying a person’s core motivator, driver, or aspiration. This requires deep, empathetic listening and observation, aimed at understanding what truly matters to them.

  • Ethical Goal: To understand the individual’s deepest needs and professional/personal goals to better align your shared objectives, creating a mutually beneficial partnership.
  • The Approach: Ask thoughtful, open-ended questions. Pay attention to what frustrates them (their pain points) and what excites them (their passions). These are not vulnerabilities to be exploited, but keys to effective, ethical collaboration.

2. Strategic Discretion and Respect for Privacy

The original law encourages probing and revealing secrets. The ethical corollary demands extreme discretion and respect for privacy. The knowledge gained about a person’s “motivator” is a sacred trust, never to be weaponized or shared.

  • Ethical Goal: To build trust through reliability and confidentiality. When people know you understand them deeply but respect their boundaries, they are more willing to open up and commit to shared goals.
  • The Approach: Use the knowledge only to tailor your communication style, provide appropriate support, or delegate tasks that align with their strengths and motivations. Never introduce their personal “pain points” into a professional or public discussion.

3. Application: Influence Through Mutual Benefit

The power derived from this ethical interpretation is not coercive; it is influential. Instead of forcing action, you structure proposals and tasks in a way that naturally aligns with the individual’s self-interest and sense of purpose.

Unethical Application (Manipulation)Ethical Application (Influence)
Exploitation: Find a flaw and threaten to expose it unless demands are met.Alignment: Identify a personal ambition and show how the current task is a direct stepping stone toward it.
Coercion: Pressure a person by targeting their greatest insecurity (e.g., fear of failure).Empowerment: Delegate a task that is a stretch goal, appealing to their desire for growth and recognition.
Self-Serving: Use the knowledge solely to advance your own position at their expense.Collaborative: Use the knowledge to structure a deal that genuinely benefits both parties, ensuring they feel valued.

Conclusion

The 33rd Law of Power can be ethically redeemed by reframing its central tenet. The goal is not to gain leverage over others, but to gain insight into them. By replacing the cold search for a “thumbscrew” with the warm effort of understanding a person’s genuine “motivator,” the law transforms from a cynical tool of control into a powerful mechanism for building strong, productive, and respectful relationships. The ethical use of this knowledge is a foundation for true, sustainable leadership built on mutual respect and genuine human connection.

The 33rd Law of Power, as seen through the eyes of an Angoleiro, is not merely a set of strategic rules, but a deep philosophical reflection on survival, adaptation, and the subtle art of influence within a complex, often adversarial, world.

The Angoleiro, a practitioner of Capoeira Angola—the older, more traditional, and less overtly acrobatic form of the Afro-Brazilian martial art—embodies this law in every roda (the circle where Capoeira is played) and every move (jogo). The 33rd Law of Power, often summarized as “Discover Each Man’s Thumbscrew,” resonates with the core Angoleiro principle: Know your opponent (and yourself) better than they know themselves.

Elaboration on the Angoleiro’s Interpretation:

  1. The “Thumbscrew” as Vulnerabilidade (Vulnerability) and Abertura (Opening):
    • In Capoeira Angola, the “thumbscrew” is not solely a psychological weakness or a secret desire, but a physical or rhythmic abertura—an opening in the opponent’s defense. This abertura is rooted in their natural movement pattern, their preferred stance, or their internal rhythm (ginga).
    • The Angoleiro does not rush the attack. They spend the initial phase of the jogo in deep, low, and deceptive ginga, observing the opponent’s “signature” movement. They look for the moment when the opponent’s weight is momentarily misplaced, when they commit too heavily to one side, or when their breathing changes—this is the physical thumbscrew, the point of maximum vulnerabilidade.
  2. The Malandragem of Psychological Leverage:
    • Beyond the physical, the Angoleiro utilizes malandragem—a term encompassing street smarts, cleverness, and cunning deception. This is the psychological aspect of the law. The Angoleiro seeks to disrupt the opponent’s emotional and mental balance.
    • This is achieved through:
      • Deception (Disimulação): Feigning fatigue, boredom, or distraction to lull the opponent into overconfidence.
      • Musical Manipulation: Using the berimbau and accompanying instruments to slow down the pace, inviting the opponent to relax, only to strike with sudden, explosive speed (axé). Conversely, speeding up the music to push a naturally slow player into making a panicked mistake. The rhythm controls the mind.
      • Emotional Taunting (Provocação): Using a look, a subtle smile, or a perfectly timed chamada (call-out) to incite anger, fear, or a desire for reckless, flashy moves, pulling the opponent away from their center and discipline. The thumbscrew here is the opponent’s ego.
  3. The Saber (Knowledge) of Context:
    • An Angoleiro understands that the “thumbscrew” is context-dependent. A move that worked in one roda against one person will not work in another. The law is not about finding a universal weakness, but a momentary one.
    • The true power lies in the constant, active research into the opponent’s style:
      • Does he favor a high defense? Attack low.
      • Is he afraid of getting close? Use the jogo de dentro (inside game), forcing intimacy and discomfort.
      • Does he rely on a single, powerful move? Lead him to commit to that move, then evade and counter.

Conclusion:
For the Angoleiro, the 33rd Law is about mastering the art of observation and patience (Paciência). Power is not seized through brute force, but carefully extracted through knowledge. By discovering the opponent’s “thumbscrew”—be it a misplaced foot, a hurried breath, or a fragile ego—the Angoleiro can control the entire jogo without ever appearing to struggle, turning the opponent’s own nature into their ultimate undoing. The path to power is the path of subtle insight.
