Mayor Richard Thomas of Mount Vernon, New York, recently discussed how staff at a local JP Morgan & Chase bank called the police on him, a staff member and a Mount Vernon police detective when he attempted to deposit a six-figure check and gain access to the city’s online banking records.
The employee called police on the three men April 25. Fortunately, officers who arrived on the scene recognized the police detective by Thomas’ side, EUR reports. Thomas believes race played a role in the phone call; the two men with him were Black and Hispanic.

A sheriff is going viral after marching with protestors angry over the death of George Floyd, an African American man who died in police custody.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson asked the crowd in Flint, Michigan to tell officers what they needed to do – and they began chanting “walk with us.”
So he responded by saying “let’s walk.”
Footage posted to social media shows the sheriff giving hugs, handshakes and pats on the back to protestors.
“I want to make this a parade, not a protest,” Swanson can be heard saying on a video posted to social media.

On May 25, 2020, Thao was one of the four cops from the Minneapolis Police Department who responded to a report by an employee at Cup Foods at 3579 Chicago Avenue in Minneapolis claiming that a customer was trying to pay with a counterfeit $20 bill. The other cops were Derek Michael Chauvin, Thomas Lane and J. Alexander Kueng.
It was a fatal arrest witnessed by several bystanders and streamed live on Facebook. Thao did not touch Floyd during the arrest.
