MESTRE BOLA SETE

Osé Luiz Oliveira Cruz, also known as Mestre Bola Sete, was born on May 31, 1950, in Santo Antonio de Jesus, located in the Reconcavo de Bahia. His journey with capoeira began in 1962 through self-training in the streets of Salvador. It was in 1968 that he started training under the guidance of the renowned capoeirista Pessoa Bababá, who was a sailor with the merchant navy and a student of Mestre Pastinha.

In 1969, Bola Sete embarked on an enriching journey as he entered the academy of Vicente Ferreira Pastinha, assuming the crucial role of Field Supervisor. His unwavering dedication and zeal towards capoeira were truly admirable, eventually culminating in his graduation by Mestre Pastinha in 1979. This marked a significant milestone in his lifelong dedication to the art of capoeira.

Following this pivotal achievement, in 1980, Mestre Bola Sete took a remarkable step forward as he established his own academy, naming it the Centro de Cultura da Capoeira Tradicional Bahia (Center for traditional Bahian Capoeira Culture). This endeavor not only showcased his passion for capoeira but also demonstrated his commitment to preserving and promoting its rich heritage.

Today, Mestre Bola Sete holds the esteemed position of president of the Council of Mestres of the Associacao Brasileira de Capoeira Angola (Brazilian Capoeira Angola Association), a testament to his profound expertise and impact in the realm of capoeira. Through his continuous efforts, he has not only enriched the practice of capoeira but has also played a pivotal role in safeguarding and disseminating its cultural significance to future generations. His unwavering dedication, knowledge, and influence continue to shape and elevate the world of capoeira, leaving an indelible mark on this cherished cultural tradition.
