A black man in a white coat, Dr. Brian Williams straddles two worlds. As a minority, he fears becoming a victim of police brutality. As a surgeon at Parkland Hospital, he is on the front line of saving police officers wounded in the line of duty.

Williams was in charge of the emergency room on Thursday night when 14 police officers and two civilians were shot by a sniper. Seven of those officers were taken to Parkland; three of them died. The attack shook Dallas and sent ripples of grief and despair across the country.
