HAPPY AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY!!!

Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity on 25 May 1963. This significant day not only marks the establishment of a pivotal organization dedicated to fostering unity and cooperation among African nations but also celebrates the cultural, political, and social achievements of the continent. It is celebrated in various countries on the African continent as well as around the world, where diaspora communities partake in festivities that reflect their heritage.

Activities for Africa Day include discussions on the continent’s rich history, workshops on the various challenges and opportunities faced by different nations, and vibrant cultural performances that showcase the diverse heritage of African societies. Established to commemorate the progress and solidarity achieved after the African Union’s inception on 9 July 2002, this significant day is celebrated on 25 May, both in Africa and globally, drawing attention to pivotal issues affecting the continent each year, such as 2015’s theme of “Year of Women’s Empowerment.” Notable messages, like one from UN Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, emphasize the critical importance of improving education, work, and healthcare for women as fundamental pillars to aid Africa’s transformation. Through these initiatives, leaders and communities unite to advocate for policies and practices that promote equality and uplift the voices of women. The slogans for 2023 and 2024 are “Our Africa Our Future” and “Education Fit for the 21st Century,” respectively, reflecting a collective vision for sustainable development and a commitment to innovative education that aligns with the needs of a rapidly changing global landscape.
