Welcome to TODAY IN BLACK MEDIA, where I post about news and cultural manifestations from a African perspective.
In this installment, we have a message from the professor. With Father’s Day weekend also came a lot of early Juneteenth celebrations. While virtually all of them were peaceful, a few were not, and the white media leapt on them to push their narrative.
It is crucial to acknowledge the positive impact of these celebrations while also addressing any incidents that may have occurred. The media’s portrayal of events often shapes public perception, and it’s important to consider the nuances and complexities that may be overlooked. Therefore, by examining cases where the media has not shown the same level of concern for similar incidents during other holiday events, we can gain a deeper understanding of how narratives are constructed and perpetuated. It’s essential to critically evaluate the media’s portrayal of events and recognize the potential biases that may influence their coverage.
