MARTIAL ARTS THEATER (6/12/24)

Welcome to MARTIAL ARTS THEATER, where I “type” about martial arts other than Capoeira, whether they are Tutorials , Documentaries, or purely for entertainment.

Today, we take a step intop the past. A couple of months ago, I made a blog post called WHY DO WE “PLAY” CAPOERIA INSTEAD OF “SPAR” CAPOEIRA?, which I expanded and turned into a permanent PAGE in this website.

On those posts, I “type” about the importance of the concept of play as a way we develop fighting skills in Capoeira as opposed to hard sparring to develop those skills. Well, last night I came across this video, which to me shows how too much hard sparring can lead to lethal consequences.

It’s crucial to understand the balance between the intensity of training and the potential risks associated with it. By emphasizing the playful aspect of Capoeira, not only do practitioners enjoy a more holistic and sustainable approach to skill development, but they also lessen the likelihood of injuries that could result from continuous hard sparring. This video serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of mindful training and the potential dangers of excessive force in martial arts practices.
